Getting Started with Vtila

5 min read|Basics

Opening an Image

Click "Open Image" on the welcome screen or drag and drop any PNG, JPG, WebP, PSD, or PDF file directly into the browser window. You can also create a blank canvas from one of the preset sizes (HD, 4K, Square, Instagram Story, or A4).

Understanding the Interface

Vtila's interface is inspired by professional desktop editors. The toolbar sits on the left with drawing and selection tools. The canvas occupies the center. The layer panel on the right lets you manage layers, opacity, and visibility. The menu bar at the top gives access to filters, AI tools, and file operations.

Basic Navigation

Zoom in and out with Ctrl/Cmd + scroll wheel or the zoom controls in the status bar. Pan around the canvas by holding Space and dragging. Use Ctrl/Cmd+Z to undo and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z to redo — Vtila keeps up to 50 history states. Click any entry in the History panel to jump back to that state.

Essential Keyboard Shortcuts

Vtila supports Photoshop-style shortcuts so you can work without reaching for menus. On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl wherever Mac uses ⌘.

⇧⌘ZRedo
⌘OOpen file
⌘NNew document
⌘SSave to browser storage

Saving Your Work

Edits auto-save to your browser (see the Recent projects list on the welcome screen). Use File → Save or ⌘S to save immediately. To download a file, use File → Export or ⇧⌘S for PNG. You can export PNG, JPEG, WebP, PSD, or PDF. Processing stays in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server.
