AI Background Removal Guide
How It Works
Vtila uses a neural network model that runs directly in your browser via WebAssembly and ONNX Runtime. The model analyzes your image to identify the subject and creates a precise mask to remove the background. No data leaves your device.
Removing a Background
Open your image, then go to AI Tools → Background Removal. The model will download on first use (around 30 MB) and is cached for future sessions. Processing takes a few seconds depending on image size and your device's capabilities.
Refining the Result
After removal, the transparent background is applied as the layer's alpha channel. You can fine-tune edges using the eraser tool with a soft brush. Add a new layer beneath to place the subject on a solid color or a different background image.
Tips for Best Results
The AI works best with clear subject-background separation. Portrait photos, product shots, and objects on simple backgrounds give the cleanest results. For complex scenes with hair or fur, the model performs well but you may want to do minor touch-ups.
